John co-founded Merrill Property Group in 2019 and is responsible for strategic direction and overseeing operations of the firm. Prior to Merrill Property Group, John worked at HFF as a Senior Managing Director and co-head of the Indianapolis office for over 3 years. While at HFF John was a member of both the National Industrial and National Office Sales teams and lead or co-lead successful investment sale assignments in Indianapolis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Columbus, Chicago, and Cleveland. Prior to HFF, John worked 5 years as the Managing Director of the Indianapolis office of CBRE. As Managing Director, John was responsible for setting the strategic direction of the firm within the Indianapolis market; overseeing operations of the company’s brokerage, management, appraisal, project management, and corporate services business lines; the strategic recruitment of top professionals; identifying and acquiring synergistic businesses; and overseeing the professional growth and well-being of over 150 local employees. Prior to accepting the role of Managing Director at CBRE, John spent 20 years as the Senior Vice President of Investment Properties and a member of CBRE’s Institutional Group. John assembled and lead a team of professionals that dominated the Indianapolis marketplace completing over $2.5 Billion in investment sales transactions throughout the Midwest. Before CBRE, Mr. Merrill spent nine years with Duke Realty Corporation. During his tenure, John was responsible for the performance of a portfolio of industrial, office and retail properties located in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Missouri. After Duke Realty went public in 1993, he was appointed Director of Financial Underwriting and was responsible for overseeing the financial underwriting of Duke’s acquisition and development activities. Prior to entering the commercial real estate field, John was a certified public accountant for PriceWaterhouseCoopers Indianapolis office. John graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting from the Scott College of Business at the Indiana State University.
